Talitha: Transforming Lives Through Creative Arts
This week Founder and Director of Talitha, actor Amanda Root and fellow actor and Talitha's Head of Overseas Development, Cathy Sara (aka Cathy Morling) will be sharing their passion and vision for this transformative work.
Talitha Arts was born out of a passion and conviction that the arts can be healing, liberating and transforming.
Talitha was founded in 2011 as a non-profit making group and to date we have grown to around 75 volunteers.
We are unique in that we integrate all artistic fields, bring together actors, dancers, musicians, singers, artists and arts therapists to create dynamic and therapeutic arts workshops, that restore the spirit and rebuild dignity, worth and hope.
In India, where we work with young victims of sexual trafficking and violent abuse, we affirm that these young girls need not be defined by their circumstances. We encourage choice, initiative, individual expression, courage, perseverance and joy to help transform these broken lives. Through our activities the girls become an active part in their own healing process.
"Talitha's work is invaluable and I know that these girls have gained much from the workshops and creative inspiration you give. It is clear from your work, that arts therapy is vital in helping them develop a sense of identity and worth as well as helping them on their journeys of healing and giving them hope for the future." - Terry Tennens, Executive Director IJM UK
