Materialism and consumerism are all-pervading features of modern Western society, and it is often noticed that this outlook has infiltrated the church and our thinking about discipleship. But how should we respond? Christians commonly adopt an anti-materialist view, and look forward to 'spiritual' life with God in heaven. The NT takes a very different view, and instead looks forward to the transformation and redemption of the material by the coming kingdom. This has a radical impact on how we understand business, enterprise and the world of work.

Ian is a writer, theologian and speaker and is also the current editor of Gove Books; HIs particular interest is to find ways of connecting the worlds of biblical studies and mainstream Christianity; his excellent blog can be found here: http://www.psephizo.com.
