Fiona Poolton Presents on Stigma, Social Exclusion and the Work of ACET Jersey

Fiona Poolton is the Executive officer from ACET Jersey and will be talking about the work of charity and it's Christian response to HIV/AIDs.

ACET Jersey is a local Christian charity which

• Provides compassionate unconditional CARE for people living on Jersey with HIV

• Preventative EDUCATION and TRAINING to young people and vulnerable adults in Jersey, who may be at risk of acquiring HIV to prevent more people acquiring the virus in Jersey. For more information about ACET Jersey please visit the website www.acet.je

Facts: 35.3 million people are living with HIV worldwide (compared to 8 million in 1990). In 2012, 6,364 people (4,559 men and 1,805 women) were newly diagnosed with HIV in the UK.

What can we do?

• Engage in issues of poverty, maginalisation and social exclusion

• Challenge ourselves and our churches to respond in practical, caring and more effective ways around issues related to HIV/ AIDs

• Inform yourselves around the facts about HIV

• Hold the issues of HIV in prayer

• Help to eliminate prejudice, stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.

Fiona's talk and discussions will follow issues around: outlining the work ACET Jersey does; why we need to think about HIV and AIDs; stigma and discrimination; God's responses. There will be time for group discussions.
